Achieving the independence and effectiveness of judiciary is a fundamental milestone on Georgia's path towards democratic development. Despite several “waves” of reforms, one of the major challenges the judiciary faces are a lack of public trust due to the fact that judicial system is not fully independent from internal and external influences. The justice system’s institutional foundations are not still well-developed and the history and baseline of the problems within the judiciary is not properly analyzed, therefore the project aims to implement activities that will ensure adequate responses to systemic problems.
Namely, project aims to support the reform of the justice system through monitoring, evidence-based advocacy, dialogue with individual judges and mobilization of civil society groups by developing a range of participatory processes, supporting the formation of public opinion and strengthening the activist groups.
The estimated results of the action will be (1) preparation of the shadow/monitoring reports that accurately assess the results of reforms passed and put new areas of reform on the agenda; (2) strengthening cross-societal participation by providing an inclusive platform for critical reflection on matters related to the justice system and its relation with a range of public and political matters of high relevance; (3) Increasing public involvement in the discussions related to the judiciary. Moreover, publication of research findings, articles and infographics will ensure that the challenges of the judiciary are on the public agenda and the media covers these issues actively.
