News About Our Organizational Changes

Dear friends and supporters,

We would like to share with you exciting news regarding important processes and outcomes that took place within our organization throughout last year. The mentioned changes relate to the revision of the organization's strategies and objectives and the organisation's name change.

The Human Rights Education and Monitoring Center (EMC) will now be called the Social Justice Center. It was a common desire of us, our comrades, supporters and friends, to have a name that would clearly depict the principles, ideals and perspectives that the organization stands for and unites us all since the beginning. The primary aim of our daily work and struggle has always been to pursue justice and, particularly, social justice. The organization does not plan to change its mission or vision alongside the name; on the contrary, the shift was made to adopt one that would better convey the organization’s working framework, principles and aims.

For the past eight years, our organization strived to support the policy creation in Georgia based on social justice, solidarity and inclusive democracy. Since the day of our establishment, we have witnessed how the political agenda is mainly oversaturated with private interests of privileged economic and political groups, and it is completely deprived of the actual social and political interests, needs and grievances of the mass public and underprivileged groups. Thus, current policies exclude not only public interests but also estrange and alienate the broader public from the political field. Whilst the political agenda is dominated by private interests, it became our primary work principle and predominant strategy to identify public interests, support political expressions and support democratic organization of the social groups to push for the inclusion of the mentioned. It goes without saying that the mentioned goal is not easy to attain in an anti-social, highly polarized and less democratic political environment; however, we constantly strive to achieve this goal through searching and developing new work and engagement strategies.

Following eight years of work experience, the organization embarked on the democratic work process of rethinking and reworking its aims, objectives and strategies, with active participation from its employees, comrades and partners. Following months-long deliberations and discussions, on the one hand, the new strategy at its core still represents the ideas and the objectives that the organization has been pursuing for the past 8 years; on the other hand, the new strategy expands the area of our work and now encompasses broader social issues, injustices and grievances. One of the objectives added to our existing strategy includes critical analyzes and kindling of the public discussion on the ongoing historical, political and social processes within the country.

“Social Justice Center” retains all program directions and strengthens its existing working portfolio with new issues, that include:

  • Justice of the environmental protection and policy;
  • Inclusive governance and participatory democratic issues;
  • Critical understanding of antisocial policy of crime and punishment;
  • Supporting the peaceful conflict transformation and protection of rights;
  • Supporting fair social;
  • Economic policy towards women.

We fully acknowledge the need for transforming the economic and political agenda to create a more just, equal and democratic political, economic and social environment. To this ends, we aim to develop the solidarity platforms, support the bottom-up citizens’ democratic organization, and aid the policy creation centred around the actual social changes the leading principles of the Social Justice Centre's working strategy.

Social Justice Center would like to thank all of its associates, employee and comrade who have played a significant role in building a more fair, just and democratic country.

We believe that a fair future can only be created, maintained and achieved through solidarity. For this reason, we remain as close supporters and allies of all the processes, people and organizations that fight for justice within their immediate community, village, town or workplace. Through their actions, they play an essential role in radical positive transformations within the country.
