Social Justice Center in cooperation with East West Management Institute (EWMI)’s program “Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia” (PROLoG) and through the support of Open society Foundation –Georgia (OSGF), has implemented a project titled: “Reforming the criminal investigation for creating fair and effective criminal justice system”. Project aims to improve investigatory functions and prosecutor’s supervisory power under the adversarial proceedings in order to strengthen the fair and effective criminal justice system.
Independence of justice system represents one of the primary aims and challenges of the Georgian democratic development. Despite decades of reformation, justice system does not have high societal trust, nor sufficient institutional bases and independence of individual judges remains unsustainable.
In light of these challenges, project aims to accomplish multitude of components to provide systematic answers to systematic problems. Project is designed to support the actual transformation of the justice sector through research, monitoring and advocacy efforts, further activities include the knowledge transfer of the identified challenges to stakeholders and the public. More specifically, project entails monitoring of the implementation of strategic and action plans of the justice system and will include the monitoring efforts of the listed documentation of other relevant sectors. In efforts to improve the public perception and knowledge, blog posts and essays will be drafted about the pressing issues of the justice system. The mentioned materials will be published on the Social Justice Center webpage and social media platforms; furthermore, online journal will be issued which will comprising of every document prepared in the scope of the project. To further engage stakeholders , project team, will organize meeting and discussions, which will take place in Tbilisi and relevant regions. Meetings will be devoted to the pressing problems of the justice system led by the authors who had contributed in writing the blog posts, essays, research and monitoring papers.
