Duration: 2023 Year
Since February 2023 the Social Justice Center (former EMC) has been implementing a Advocating for the Strengthening of Human Rights Perspectives in Georgia’s Peace Policy project financially supported by the Heinrich Boell Foundation, South Cacuasus Regional Office.
In the absence of a conflict transformation and peace policy, the rights and social conditions of various conflict affected groups progressively deteriorates. Issues related to peace and conflicts have increasingly become a subject of political polarization and confrontations between political parties while actual problems faced by the protracted conflicts continue to remain beyond political agenda. Recent body of research undertaken by the Social Justice Center concerning status of human rights and social standing of communities residing in Gali and Akhalgori have demonstrated that these communities suffer from dual neglect and discriminatory practices. In addition, villages located near the Administrative Boundary Lines (ABLs) continue to struggle with precarious social conditions and severe violations of human rights.
The project aims to strengthen the perspective of human rights in Georgia’s peace policy and improve the protection of human rights and social standing of communities residing in Gali and Akhalgori.
To this end, the project is designed to increase the knowledge and promote discussions about needs and challenges faced by communities in Akhalgori and Gali among media organizations and the beneral public, and work with political parties and public agencies with the aim of creating a discussion platform and advocating specific recommendations.
