Today the team of the Social Justice Center celebrates the winning of the 2022 global Max van der Stoel award established by the OSCE’s High Commissioner on National Minorities to honor the contribution to supporting and empowering national minorities.
The Max van der Stoel Award, one of the most prestigious titles in the field of Human Rights was established in 2001 for organizations and individuals with an outstanding record of commitment and achievements in supporting ethnic/national minorities in their countries.
“Acknowledging its activism and courage as it tirelessly advocates for equality for all social groups in Georgia, the Jury took the unanimous decision to reward the SJC with the 2022 Max van der Stoel Award.”, reads a press release published by the OSCE on 26 July 2022.
While we are immensely grateful to the OSCE Office of the High Commissioner on National Minorities for the award, the special thank goes to the Embassy of Switzerland in Georgia, our long-time and trusted partner, for nominating the Social Justice Center for the award.
The award belongs to each and every staff member of the Social Justice Center for believing in equality and liberty, and working tirelessly towards these goals which lay at the core of our work!
Every endeavor that we take, every achievement and victory that we celebrate is built on integrity and commitment of Georgia’s non-dominant ethnic and religious communities and their invaluable contribution to reimagining our country’s future based on solidarity, inclusivity, and justice. We share this award with all who partake in activism, community work and self-organization to end systemic discrimination and achieve transformative changes.
