With the support of Open Society Georgia Foundation (OSGF), Social Justice Center, in cooperation with Partnership for Human Rights (PHR) is commencing a project titled “Supporting the equality of the vulnerable groups in the labor and employment field”. Through general court appeals and utilization of public defender’s mechanism, project aims to eradicate discrimination of vulnerable groups and to further reinforce equality within work environment.

Project consists of two integral parts: To identify and rectify cases of discrimination within legislation against vulnerable groups (PHR), with special emphases on people with disabilities and senior citizens and also the work place discrimination (Social Justice Center).

Throughout the project life spam PHR shall carry out minimum of 7 strategic cases (4 cases of discrimination against People with disabilities and 3 against the senior citizens), to present them to general courts and public defender’s antidiscrimination platform. Project team will identify relevant cases through visitation to the retirement homes (in Tbilisi), houses for people with disabilities (Rustavi) and psychiatric facilities (Rustavi). Furthermore, discrimination cases will be looked into through visitations to schools and kindergartens dominated with mentioned subgroup. Additionally, EMC shall identify and litigate at least 7 strategic cases of workplace discrimination (labor, contractual and pre-contractual relations) and will try to identify underlining practices of systematic injustices towards vulnerable groups. In the scope of strategic litigation, project team will look into cases, that exhibit barriers within the legislation and in practical implementation. Through the mentioned approach, project-team will aim to identify overarching problems and injustices that are prevalent in the system and are inherently discriminatory towards the stipulated group. Cases will be presented before general courts, public defender and Constitutional Court of Georgia to illustrate and eradicate discriminatory practices at the workplace towards vulnerable groups.
