Social Justice Center from 10 July, 2014 is implementing a new project – “Institutional reform of the law enforcement system in Georgia: Countering the politicized system”. The project is financed by Open Society Georgia Foundation.
The aim of the project is to improve the situation of the criminal justice and the rule of law in Georgia that is related to the formation of the accountable, balanced and transparent system of the law enforcement agencies in Georgia.
In the frameworks of the project Social Justice Center will implement:
During implementing the project the focus will be on the institutional structure and the issues of distributing competences. In particular, the following issues will be studied: Organizing and recruitment of the law enforcement agencies, the mechanisms of controlling and balancing of the law enforcement system, the possible forms of interest conflicts and political influences, standards of transparency, the possibilities of investigation, the repressive and preventive functions of the police, operative and other police activities.
Given the fact that the period of the project coincides with the ongoing process of constitutional reform, the project team will work with the State Constitutional Commission working groups. For advocating purposes of the topic, the project group with the help of the media resources and social network will spread blogs and analytical articles about the needs and the directions of the reform of the law enforcement agencies, it will also cooperate with the media for it to actively cover the topic.
