Individual Freedoms and Rights in Policing and Criminal Justice System

Duration: 2016-2018 Year

From February 2016, Social Justice Center commences a project in association with Open Society Institute (OSI) titled “Individual Freedoms and Rights in Policing and Criminal Justice System”. The goal of the proposed project is to increase the respect for human rights and individual freedom within the activities of law enforcement agencies and the entire criminal justice system through the institutional reform of law enforcement agencies, increase in functional independence and creation of a balanced, transparent and accountable system.

The proposed project will achieve the abovementioned goal through the following objectives:

  • Supporting the institutional reform of law enforcement agencies
  • Transforming of police prevention system
  • Advocating changes in drug policy
  • Improving judicial oversight of the criminal justice system

In the scope of the project, project team will draft a small brochure and recommendation package regarding the flaws of institutional arrangement. Additionally, Social Justice Center will conduct strategic litigation cases on the availability of primary acts and regulations and report analyze the preventive police system. To further raise awareness on the findings of the report public discussion will be organized, blog posts will be written and trainings for journalists will be scheduled.
