In minority regions, there are numerous socioeconomic problems, which include political alienation from state institutions, non-use of minority languages in administrative proceedings, more poverty, and less job opportunities. Furthermore, even in densely populated ethnic minority regions, ethnic minorities have a disproportionately low representation within municipal councils. Because the minorities do not have proper representation within the parliament or councils, and since there are no advisory mechanisms at the governmental/parliament level - their concerns neither have been heard nor have become part of the political agenda. Party policies on minority issues are frequently superficial and ineffective, and they do not reflect the interests and needs of grass root groups. Numerous analyses of 2020 party programs have revealed that none of the parties have proposed specific mechanisms that would not just superficially talk about achieving equality in the country, but also create new visions, policies, and mechanisms for genuine inclusion of ethnic minorities in public life, as well as a fair political and social environment and a multicultural environment.
In light of the above mentioned challenges, Social Justice Center will direct program objectives and activities to alleviate identified issues. Namely, to enhance knowledge on minority culture, identity, and history that is connected to the Georgian state, supporting democratic, inclusive values and ideas of diversity based on citizenship instead of ethnoreligious narratives.
