Project “Towards an Accountable, fair and Human Rights-Centered Mining Sector in Georgia” aims to address the most systematic issues in mining sector that negatively affect the human rights of various communities.  The present project is a logical continuation of the previous project implemented with the support of the Foundation and which mainly focuses on a) public participation in environmental decision-making in extractive industry and b) environmental supervision on mining sector. The project which consists of research, litigation and advocacy components, builds upon the research documents prepared within the mentioned previous project and aims to utilize the findings of those studies in practice through various instruments.

To this end, the project envisages the following objectives:

  1. Sensitize the public and advocate before the relevant authorities about the importance of transparency and accountability in the mining sector of Georgia;
  2. Promote environmental justice through litigating high profile and strategic cases;
  3. Create and disseminate knowledge on best international practices regarding taxing and benefit sharing in the mining sector and challenge the existing fiscal framework regulating the extractive industry.
