Mariam Begadze has been a doctoral candidate of Comparative Constitutional Law at Central European University since 2018. Her doctoral project examines health rights jurisprudence in Colombia, South Africa, and India considering its implication\s for the Separation of Powers doctrine in these jurisdictions. Starting from June 2022, as a doctoral fellow at CEU Democracy Institute, Ms. Begadze has been researching policies of the center against opposition-led local governments, as well as more broadly, issues of judicial review over pretextual rule-making.
Mariam holds an LLM degree in Human Rights from CEU (2015) and has obtained her BA in Legal Studies from Tbilisi State University (2014). Her research interests include broadly comparative constitutional law, and more narrowly, socio-economic rights, separation of powers, dialogic review and theory of democratic experimentalism, also challenges of illiberal democracies. Before joining CEU, Mariam worked at an NGO (EMC) as a strategic litigation lawyer.
